Engineering Portfolio

Global Intoduction

From multiple internship experiences and my undergraduate education, I have developed a strong interest in designing sustainable city infrastructures through automation, numerical modelling and data analysis. I believe well-designed sustainable infrastructure is essential to combat climate change and protect our society and the environment. Also, by leveraging the power of advanced computer technology, more effective and holistic solutions can be developed.

In my future career, I hope to design and build a greener and more resilient city by:

  1. Applying the design principles of sustainable development;
  2. Automating repetitive tasks in the design process, thus more resources can be allocated into research and development;
  3. Applying numerical modelling and data analysis to increase the accuracy of the analysis.

Computer Technology and Sustainable Development are the two main components of my engineering philosophy. The following portfolio items are some of the project experiences I have, and they demonstrate my abilities and passion in either of these two areas.

Computer technology

  • Rocscience Internship: Implemented formulations in C++ to model bored pile behaviour numerically
  • Seismic Design Team: Developed digital tools to improve the structural design process
  • Autonomous Vehicle Paper: Explored how machine learning and automation impact our society

Sustainable development

  • Green Growth Paper: Explored the feasibility and benefits of implementing Green Growth in engineering practices
  • OPG Case Study: Discussed how sustainable energy benefits the society and the environment

Project Experience

Rocscience: Geomechanics Assistant

During my internship at Rocscience, I implemented the new Bored Pile and Driven Pile analysis features in RSPile.

Seismic Design Team: Design and Analysis Lead

Seismic Design Team designs a earthquake-resistant balsa wood tower and competes with over 50 universities around the world.

Transportation: Autonomous Vehicle & Traffic Congestion

This paper discusses if autonomous vehicles will improve traffic congestions, and it has enhanced my understanding of how technology impacts of our city.

Engineering Economics: Green Growth

This assignment discusses the concept of Green Growth and how it can be applied to engineering economic analysis.

Engineering Economics: OPG case study

This case study compares the economic, social and environmental impacts of two project alternatives - wind power plant and natural gas power plant.
